KUALA LUMPUR, 27 Dis 2019 — Pemilik cap dagangan di Malaysia kini boleh mendaftarkan jenama mereka di 122 negara menerusi Sistem Madrid iaitu kaedah pemfailan tunggal untuk pendaftaran di negara-negara dalam Protokol Madrid yang berkuat kuasa hari ini.
Menteri Perdagangan Dalam Negeri dan Hal Ehwal Pengguna Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail berkata ini susulan penyertaan Malaysia dalam Protokol Madrid iaitu sistem pendaftaran cap dagangan antarabangsa ditadbir Pertubuhan Harta Intelek Dunia (WIPO) pada 27 Sept lepas.
Beliau berkata sistem itu juga membolehkan pemilik jenama tempatan memfail dan mendaftar jenama atau cap dagangan mereka di 122 negara tersebut dengan lebih cepat serta kos lebih rendah tanpa perlu berurusan di setiap negara terbabit.
“Ini sekali gus memberi banyak faedah kepada usahawan tempatan. Oleh itu, pemilik jenama yang mahu mendaftarkan jenama mereka boleh mengunjungi mana-mana kaunter khidmat pelanggan Perbadanan Harta Intelek Malaysia (MyIPO) di seluruh negara.
“Pemilik jenama sedia ada yang telah berdaftar dengan MyIPO juga boleh meraih manfaat daripada Protokol Madrid itu,” katanya dalam satu kenyataan, hari ini.
Saifuddin berkata, selain mengurangkan kos perniagaan untuk usahawan tempatan, penyertaan Malaysia dalam Protokol Madrid juga mampu menarik pelaburan dengan mempermudah pendaftaran cap dagangan asing di Malaysia.
Pada masa sama, ia turut memberi mesej jelas kepada masyarakat antarabangsa bahawa standard perlindungan harta intelek di Malaysia adalah menepati piawaian antarabangsa, kata beliau.
Protokol Madrid merupakan sistem pendaftaran antarabangsa yang ditadbir oleh Biro Antarabangsa WIPO dan bertujuan memudahkan perniagaan tempatan berkembang ke luar negara.
