Baginda bertitah teknologi dan aplikasi baharu memberi banyak manfaat dari segi ekonomi dan alam sekitar — sama ada daripada kejayaan genetik; penemuan kaedah atau penggunaan pemprosesan baharu; atau pencapaian kecekapan yang lebih baik dalam proses pengeluaran dan pengedaran sedia ada.
“Teknologi baharu lain akan membuktikan transformasi, dan inovasi dalam sektor perlu digalakkan dan disokong sebanyak mungkin, untuk meneroka potensi gelombang terkini kemajuan teknologi sepenuhnya.
“Pendekatan inovasi juga perlu untuk menghadapi cabaran alam sekitar yang meningkat dan dijangka akan dihadapi,” titah baginda.
Sultan Nazrin bertitah satu kajian mendapati jumlah usahawan yang membangunkan perniagaan tani berdasarkan teknologi terkini hanya satu per dua puluh daripada mereka dalam sektor penjagaan kesihatan, dan dengan hanya satu per sepuluh daripada pelaburan.
Dari segi potensi, baginda bertitah ia dapat dilihat dalam jurang yang besar antara purata hasil kira-kira 20 tan metrik satu hektar setahun, dan apa yang dianggap kemungkinan oleh penanam kelapa sawit, 35 atau 40 tan satu hektar.
“Lebih banyak perhatian perlu diberikan kepada persoalan bagaimana hasil yang lebih tinggi ini dapat dicapai dalam sektor ini.
“Pekebun kecil sekali lagi memerlukan perhatian dan sokongan yang khusus,” titah baginda.
Sultan Nazrin menjelaskan meningkatkan produktiviti turut memerlukan keseimbangan yang lebih cekap untuk dicapai antara buruh, penggunaan jentera dan kos relatif.
Ini perlu mengambil kira kekangan pengambilan pekerja yang berterusan dan menangani kerugian antara 10 dan 20 peratus daripada pengeluaran disebabkan kekurangan tenaga buruh setiap tahun, titah baginda.
