Beliau ditemui selepas menghadiri sesi ‘town hall’ Kementerian Sumber Manusia bersama pemegang taruh peringkat utara terdiri daripada wakil agensi kerajaan, pekerja dan kesatuan sekerja, majikan dan persatuan majikan serta orang ramai.
Ekonomi gig merujuk kepada kegiatan ekonomi yang dijalankan individu dengan cara menjual perkhidmatan kepada orang lain dan dijalankan sama ada secara sepenuh masa atau separuh masa.
Mahfuz berkata ketika ini individu yang terlibat dalam ekonomi gig boleh mencarum sendiri Kumpulan Wang Simpanan Pekerja (KWSP) dan Pertubuhan Keselamatan Sosial (PERKESO) namun jawatankuasa itu sedang mencari penyelesaian dalam menjaga kebajikan mereka.
Mengulas mengenai town hall itu, beliau berkata Kementerian Sumber Manusia berada pada landasan yang tepat dalam merencana Dasar Sumber Manusia baharu setelah beberapa input cadangan diterima daripada pemegang taruh yang hadir.

“Sehingga kini kami sedang berusaha mengurangkan pekerja asing dan dalam masa sama meningkatkan kebolehan pekerja tempatan. Ketika ini pekerja asing yang bekerja dalam pelbagai sektor di seluruh negara ialah 15 peratus sahaja berbanding keseluruhan pekerja,” katanya.
