IPOH, 1 Jan — Pulau Pangkor, destinasi pelancongan terkemuka di Perak dan di Malaysia mencipta sejarah apabila menjadi Pulau Bebas Cukai (PBC) berkuat kuasa hari ini.
Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Pelancongan, Kesenian dan Kebudayaan Perak, Tan Kar Hing berkata status Pulau Pangkor sebagai PBC merupakan satu anjakan paradigma untuk menggalakkan lebih ramai pelancong berkunjung ke pulau peranginan itu.
Tanpa menyatakan angka sebenar, beliau berkata statistik kedatangan pelancong ke pulau yang terkenal dengan ikan bilis mata biru itu sejak lima tahun lepas merosot dan yakin status PBC dapat merancakkan kembali sektor pelancongan.
Tan berkata kerajaan negeri merancang pelbagai pembangunan infrastruktur di pulau itu termasuk menarik pihak swasta untuk melabur, antara lain untuk membina pusat beli-belah yang lebih besar, cantik dan selesa selain hotel tiga bintang ke atas.
Kerajaan negeri juga merancang untuk menaik taraf perkhidmatan feri selain teksi van berwarna merah jambu yang merupakan identiti Pulau Pangkor, katanya kepada Bernama ketika ditemu bual baru-baru ini.
“Kita maklum sekarang ini dari segi feri, teksi agak usang. Kita ada sub jawatankuasa yang membincangkan mengenai penukaran teksi termasuk tawarkan pinjaman kepada pengusaha, persatuan teksi.
“Kita juga mungkin akan buka lebih banyak lesen feri untuk beroperasi. Jumlah tidak tetapkan selaras dengan limpahan pelancongan …tawar perkhidmatan baik dan selesa,” katanya.
Tan juga berkata setakat ini terdapat tiga kedai memegang status bebas cukai termasuk sebuah kedai coklat yang telah beroperasi, manakala selebihnya belum dapat ditentukan kerana ia merupakan hak pemilik premis untuk membawa masuk barangan.
Berhubung senarai barangan termasuk penjualan arak dan rokok, berkata ia masih dalam rundingan antara kerajaan negeri dan Kementerian Kewangan.
Berkaitan keluhan penduduk di pulau itu terutama mengenai jeti yang bukan sahaja menjadi laluan kargo, malah mereka perlu beratur panjang dengan pelancong, Tan berkata pihaknya mengambil maklum isu itu dan usaha sedang dilakukan untuk menyelesaikannya.
Pengisytiharan rasmi status Pulau Pangkor sebagai PBC dijangka disempurnakan oleh Sultan Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah pada satu tarikh yang akan ditentukan kemudian.
