KUALA LUMPUR, 18 Nov 2019 — Pembekal Kapal Sokongan Luar Pesisir (OSV) Malaysia Nam Cheong Limited (Nam Cheong) menerusi anak syarikat milik penuhnya Nam Cheong Dockyard Sdn Bhd (Nam Cheong Dockyard) menandatangani memorandum persefahaman (MoU) dengan Perbadanan Labuan.
MoU itu melibatkan pajakan tanah seluas 7.3 hektar di Kiansam, Labuan.
Dalam makluman kepada Singapore Exchange, Nam Cheong menyifatkan perjanjian penting itu sebagai bukti kehadiran dan reputasi Nam Cheong yang telah lama ditubuhkan dalam sektor marin luar pesisir Malaysia sejak 1968.
Nam Cheong Dockyard berhasrat membangunkan semula kemudahan sedia ada di atas tanah itu dengan kemudahan kejuruteraan marin bersepadu dan pembinaan moden bagi menyokong pertumbuhan industri minyak dan gas di Labuan, Sabah, Sarawak dan Brunei.
Kemudahan baharu yang akan dibangunkan semula itu termasuklah gudang pangkalan bekalan, kemudahan limbungan kapal, kemudahan dermaga pembaikan kapal, dermaga kapal dan bengkel pasang siap, dan juga pusat latihan bagi para pekerja.
Perjanjian muktamad dijangka dimeterai menjelang akhir tahun ini, manakala operasi ditetapkan bermula pada 2021.
Apabila selesai, operasi di daratan dijangka memberi sumbangan positif kepada prestasi kewangan kumpulan mulai tahun kewangan yang berakhir 31 Dis, 2021 dan seterusnya.
Pelabuhan milik kumpulan itu juga dibenarkan untuk dimanfaatkan bagi pembaikan kapal, dermaga kapal dan perkhidmatan asas bekalan di daratan bagi meningkatkan kecekapan operasi secara keseluruhan.
Ia mengharapkan hubungan kerja baharu yang terjalin dengan Perbadanan Labuan dapat menyediakan asas yang kukuh bagi meningkatkan potensinya dalam mengembangkan aliran pendapatan termasuk pembaikan kapal, pemerolehan kejuruteraan luar pesisir dan pembinaan, pangkalan bekalan dan logistik untuk perkhidmatan sokongan marin luar pesisir, selain perniagaan pembuatan kapal dan sewa sedia ada kumpulan itu.
