KUALA LUMPUR, 5 Okt: Kongres Kesatuan Pekerja-Pekerja Dalam Perkhidmatan Awam (Cuepacs) merancang untuk menemui Menteri Pendidikan, Dr Mazlee Malik berhubung cadangan penggabungan Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) dan Universiti Sultan Zainal Abdin (UniSZA).
Presidennya, Datuk Azih Muda, berkata pihaknya berhasrat menyampaikan satu nota kepada menteri berkenaan, antaranya bagi menyatakan bantahan dan untuk merayu supaya cadangan berkenaan tidak diteruskan.
Beliau berkata, ini kerana, kedua-dua universiti berkenaan mempunyai matlamat berbeza selain berpendapat langkah penggabungan itu akan hanya mengecilkan lagi bilangan universiti yang ada di dalam negara, sekarang ini.
Cadangan itu, menurutnya bukan sahaja mendapat Cuepacs, malah warga kedua-dua universiti terbabit.
“Semua orang tahu, UniSZA lebih berorientasikan keagamaan walaupun hari ini ia telah beralih kepada subjek lain seperti perubatan dan teknologi, manakala UMT pula asalnya adalah cawangan Universiti Putra Malaysia untuk mengkaji maritim dan hidupan laut.
“Sebab itulah dengan dua matlama berbeza ini ia tidak boleh duduk bersama,” katanya, memetik kenyataannya kepada media selepas pertemuan dengan wakil daripada gabungan-gabungan universiti, termasuk wakil daripada Kesatuan Sekerja UMT dan UniSZA di Wisma Cuepacs, di sini, semalam.
Azih, pada sidang media itu juga menyatakan kekesalannya terhadap pucuk pimpinan universiti yang disifatkan membuat keputusan terlalu cepat tanpa mengambil kira sensitiviti warganya, termasuk kakitangan dan penuntut.
Sebelum ini, Pejabat Ketua Pengarah Pendidikan Tinggi mengeluarkan kenyataan mengenai kerajaan, secara prinsipnya bersetuju dengan cadangan penggabungan UMT dan UniSZA yang dicapai dalam satu mesyuarat Kabinet pada 4 September lalu.
