KOTA KINABALU, 15 Sept 2019 — Kursus yang ditawarkan menerusi Pendidikan Teknikal dan Latihan Vokasional (TVET) sangat relevan dalam usaha Sabah untuk terus memakmurkan ekonomi negeri.
Menteri Pelajaran dan Inovasi Sabah Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob berkata kursus yang ditawarkan Kolej Vokasional Kementerian Pendidikan di Sabah dan Labuan misalnya mampu mempersiapkan graduan dengan tenaga kerja mahir seterusnya mengurangkan kebergantungan kepada pekerja asing.
“Sabah kini menjurus kepada usaha memaksimumkan hasil bumi negeri. Sabah kaya dengan kayu kayan, minyak dan gas, industri makanan, pertanian, perikanan, pelancongan, dan dalam masa sama, kita mahu memajukan sektor pembuatan atau perkilangan.
“Jadi, memang sangat sesuai peranan kolej vokasional ini untuk memenuhi keperluan melonjakkan ekonomi Sabah. Jika kita bersedia kita tidak perlu lagi mencari tenaga kerja dari luar,” katanya.
Beliau berkata demikian kepada pemberita selepas merasmikan Konvokesyen Kolej Vokasional Kementerian Pendidikan Kali Keempat bagi Zon Sabah dan Labuan serta penyampaian diploma kepada 1,152 graduan yang mengikuti pelbagai bidang pengajian.
Sebanyak 36 kursus peringkat diploma ditawarkan kolej vokasional terbabit antaranya Teknologi Sains dan Komputer, Teknologi Automotif, Teknologi Kimpalan, Seni Kulinari, Kosmetologi dan Pengurusan Perniagaan.
Dalam pada itu, Yusof juga mahu ibu bapa di Sabah sentiasa berfikiran terbuka dan tidak menganggap pendidikan vokasional sebagai pilihan ketiga atau keempat sebaliknya mereka perlu menyedari bahawa TVET adalah sangat penting dalam era Revolusi Industri 4.0.
“Kolej vokasional turut membuktikan kebolehpasaran graduan TVET lebih luas apabila merekodkan 97 peratus graduan bidang itu diambil bekerja mengikut bidang masing-masing semasa menjalani latihan industri,” katanya yang mahu kerjasama strategik antara kolej vokasional dan penggiat industri terus diperkasakan.
