PUTRAJAYA, 10 Julai 2019 — Jumlah kemalangan melibatkan pekerja ketika berulang-alik dari rumah ke tempat kerja dan sebaliknya, menunjukkan trend yang membimbangkan, dengan purata dua kematian dicatatkan setiap hari, kata Menteri Sumber Manusia M. Kula Segaran.
Katanya, pada tahun 2018 sejumlah 72,631 kemalangan dilaporkan ke Pertubuhan Keselamatan Sosial (Perkeso) di mana 48 peratus daripadanya, melibatkan kemalangan dalam perjalanan ulang-alik.
“Jumlah ini membimbangkan kerana secara puratanya daripada tiga kematian ketika bekerja yang dilaporkan kepada Perkeso dalam sehari, dua kematian disebabkan akibat kemalangan dalam perjalanan ulang-alik, manakala satukematian, di tempat kerja,” katanya ketika berucap melancarkan ‘Vision Zero’ Malaysia 2019 di sini hari ini.
Kula Segaran berkata sektor pembuatan mencatatkan jumlah kemalangan ulang-alik paling tinggi yang melibatkan penunggang motosikal.
“Sudah sampai masanya untuk mengubah sikap ‘tidak apa’ dalam generasi masa kini terhadap kemalangan dan kecederaan pekerjaan,” katanya sambil menambah semua pihak berkepentingan perlu mula mendidik generasi muda bahawa kemalangan boleh dielakkan, dan tidak ada satupun kemalangan boleh diterima.
Mengenai Vision Zero, Kula Segaran berkata ia merupakan satu pendekatan transformasi yang diperkenalkan Persatuan Keselamatan Sosial Antarabangsa (ISSA) untuk mengurangkan kemalangan di tempat kerja dan penyakit akibat pekerjaan.
Katanya, majikan dan pekerja di Malaysia perlu mengamalkan toleransi sifar terhadap sikap berisiko, yang menjadi punca kemalangan dan penyakit disebabkan tempat kerja.
“Vision Zero perlu diamalkan di semua peringkat dan tidak hanya difokuskan pada sektor pekerjaan.
“Ia perlu diamalkan dalam masyarakat seperti di sekolah dan pusat pengajian tinggi,” katanya sambil menambah sehingga kini 170 buah syarikat telah pun mengambil bahagian dalam program Vision Zero.
