KUALA LUMPUR, 1 Julai 2019 — Timbalan Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail memberi jaminan bahawa kepentingan rakyat tempatan akan diberi keutamaan sebelum sebarang kelulusan membenarkan pelarian bekerja secara sah di negara ini.
Beliau berkata sememangnya kerajaan mahu pelarian diberi peluang pekerjaan supaya mereka boleh menjalani kehidupan di negara ini, namun ia tidak seharusnya menjejaskan kepentingan rakyat tempatan.
“Kita mahu mereka bekerja, namun ada cara bagaimana mereka boleh bekerja di Malaysia tanpa menjejaskan peluang pekerjaan orang Malaysia.
“Dan (begitu juga) bagaimana nak tentukan mereka betul-betul pelarian (pemegang kad Pesuruhjaya Bangsa-Bangsa Bersatu Bagi Pelarian – UNHCR)…dan bukannya pelarian ekonomi,” katanya pada sesi soal jawab lisan di Dewan Rakyat, hari ini.
Beliau menjawab soalan tambahan Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman (PAS-Sik) yang ingin tahu sama ada kerajaan bersedia membenarkan pelarian bekerja secara sah di negara ini.
Dr Wan Azizah berkata berdasarkan statistik UNHCR, seramai 124,753 pelarian dan 48,978 pemohon suaka direkodkan di negara ini sehingga Mei lepas.
Menurutnya daripada jumlah pelarian itu, sebanyak 53.6 peratus atau 93,138 orang adalah warga Rohingya.
Beliau berkata projek rintis kebenaran bekerja bagi warga Rohingya yang memegang kad UNHCR sedang dilaksanakan ketika ini dan ia sedang dikaji dan diperhalusi kerajaan sama ada akan dikekalkan atau dipinda.
“Kita ada projek rintis kebenaran bekerja dalam sektor perladangan di Sime Darby Plantation Berhad, namun ada juga masalah apabila orang Rohingya ini tak sesuai dengan pekerjaan begitu. Dalam sektor perkilangan, dalam Gardenia Bakeries tak ramai ada, lebih kurang 100 orang,” katanya.
Beliau turut mengakui wujud kes kad UNHCR disalahgunakan pelarian yang menjadikannya sebagai alasan ketika ditahan pihak penguat kuasa apabila didapati bekerja secara tidak sah.
“Apabila ditangkap, mereka hanya tunjuk kad dan tunjuk bahawa mereka ini kebal,” katanya.
Dr Wan Azizah berkata kerajaan juga sedang berunding dengan UNHCR untuk menawarkan khidmat anggota Polis Diraja Malaysia dan Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia bagi membantu dan memperhalusi proses pendaftaran pelarian yang ketika ini dibuat secara unilateral oleh UNHCR.
