KEMENTERIAN Kesihatan akan memulai proses pengambilan lebih 2,000 jururawat secara kontrak bagi mengatasi masalah kekurangan dalam sektor itu yang kian mendesak.
Menterinya, Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, berkata usaha berkenaan merangkumi sebahagian daripada peruntukkan RM281 juta yang telah diterima kementeriannya bagi tujuan pengambilan pekerja kontrak.
Buat masa ini, katanya terdapat 3,500 kekosongan jururawat di seluruh negara, di mana 980 lantikan secara berperingkat ke jawatan tetap akan dibuat, mulai hari ini.
“Kami akan mengambil lebih ramai jururawat untuk mengatasi masalah kekurangan tenaga dalam sektor berkenaan,” katanya, memetik kenyataannya kepada media.
Dr Dzulkefly berkata, kementeriannya tidak menafikan Malaysia masih belum dapat memenuhi nisbah jururawat kepada penduduk sebagaimana yang ditetapkan oleh Pertubuhan Kesihatan Dunia (WHO) iaitu satu jururawat bagi setiap 200 penduduk.
Nisbah buat masa ini ialah satu jururawat bagi setiap 300 penduduk.
Sementara itu, Timbalan Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, menzahirkan penghargaannya kepada golongan jururawat yang memainkan peranan penting dan memberi bantuan besar, terutama doktor ketika berdepan tekanan.
Beliau, ketika berucap melancarkan Hari Jururawat Antarabangsa 2019 di Taman Ekspo Pertanian Malaysia Serdang (MAEPS), semalam, mengimbau pengalamannya sebagai doktor dulu, termasuk sokongan jururawat yang bekerja dengannya ketika baru lulus pengajian perubatan dulu yang menambah keyakinannya untuk bertugas.
“Ketika saya menjadi doktor, saya menghargai jururawat saya semasa pembedahan oleh kerana jururawat dapat membaca fikiran saya dengan begitu tepat, lantas memberikan saya alat yang betul yang saya perlukan,” katanya, seraya mengucapkan terima kasih di atas sumbangan golongan itu.
