ISKANDAR PUTERI, 6 Jan 2020 — Polis menahan tujuh lelaki warganegara China yang disyaki terlibat dalam sindiket penipuan ‘Macau Scam’ dalam serbuan di sebuah rumah banglo tiga tingkat di Bukit Indah, Jumaat lepas.
Ketua Polis Daerah Iskandar Puteri ACP Dzulkhairi Mukhtar berkata kesemua suspek berumur 20 hingga 30 tahun itu ditahan pada 3 petang oleh sepasukan polis risikan Jabatan Siasatan Jenayah Komersial Ibu Pejabat Polis Kontinjen Johor dan Ibu Pejabat Daerah Iskandar Puteri.
Katanya, kesemua suspek dipercayai memasuki negara ini secara haram berikutan tiada dokumen perjalanan yang sah ditemui dalam serbuan.
“Kita buat risikan lebih kurang dua minggu dan kita percaya sindiket ini beroperasi lebih sebulan.
“Modus operandi pula adalah dengan membuat panggilan mengatakan mereka daripada agensi kerajaan seperti polis, Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia dan sebagainya yang kemudiannya akan mendorong mangsa untuk memindahkan wang ke akaun lain,” katanya dalam sidang media, di sini, hari ini.
Menurutnya, sindiket berkenaan menggunakan tiga bahasa iaitu bahasa Melayu, Inggeris dan Cina ketika menjalankan modus operandi untuk memperdaya mangsa.
Dzulkhairi berkata turut dirampas dalam serbuan itu adalah lapan komputer riba dan lapan telefon bimbit pelbagai jenama serta empat unit penghala (router) yang kesemuanya dianggarkan bernilai RM20,000.
“Kesemua suspek merupakan pekerja dan pihak polis masih melakukan siasatan untuk mengesan dalang sindiket penipuan itu,” katanya.
Bagaimanapun, belum dapat dipastikan sama ada kesemua suspek mempunyai kaitan dengan penahanan 680 warga China di Cyberjaya yang terlibat sindiket penipuan pada November tahun lepas, katanya.
Dzulkhairi berkata kesemua suspek kini ditahan reman selama 14 hari bermula 4 sehingga 17 Jan untuk disiasat di bawah Seksyen 420 Kanun Keseksaan dan 6(1)(c) Akta Imigresen 1959.
Sepanjang tahun lepas, pihaknya telah membuat 42 tangkapan berkaitan Macau Scam melibatkan kerugian kira-kira RM2 juta manakala 41 kertas siasatan dibuka dengan lima kes telah dituduh di mahkamah.
Dzulkhairi dalam masa sama menasihatkan orang ramai supaya tidak mudah terpedaya dan melakukan semakan di agensi berkaitan untuk memastikan kesahihan panggilan yang diterima.
