KUALA LUMPUR, 24 Julai: Kesatuan sekerja menuntut pemberian 98 hari cuti bersalin bergaji untuk wanita, berbanding 75 hari bergaji yang dikemukakan Kementerian Sumber Manusia dalam cadangan pindaan Akta Pekerjaan.
Tuntutan itu, antara yang dikemukakan oleh Gabungan Pembaharuan Undang-Undang Buruh terhadap kerajaan bagi melakukan pembaharuan undang-undang buruh, termasuk pemberian tujuh hari cuti bergaji kepada suami.
Gabungan itu membabitkan 58 kesatuan sekerja dan organisasi pekerja.
Kenyataan oleh pengerusi bersama mereka, N Gopal Krishnan dan Irene Xavier itu menyifatkan cadangan yang dikemukakan oleh kementerian pimpinan Menteri, M Kulasegaran sebagai lemah, selain mendiskriminasi golongan wanita.
Ini kerana, menurut kenyataan itu, adalah menghairankan apabila cadangan kementerian itu menyebut majikan akan hanya membayar gaji 75 hari bekerja kepada pekerja wanita yang melahirkan walaupun cuti diberi adalah 98 hari.
“Ini menjadikan cuti 98 hari tidak bermakna kerana pekerja wanita perlu kembali bertugas selepas bercuti 75 hari untuk memenuhi keperluan mereka,” kata kenyataan itu.
Peruntukkan tujuh hari cuti bergaji buat suami pula, jelas kenyataan itu, penting sebagai sokongan buat emosi isteri.
“Gabungan ini menyeru kerajaan untuk memberi cuti kelahiran minimum selama tujuh hari kepada semua bapa warganegara Malaysia dalam pindaan Akta Pekerjaan akan datang,” kata mereka.
“Sangat penting untuk seorang suami menemani isteri mereka sepanjang tempoh seminggu pertama selepas kelahiran bayi.”
