KUALA LUMPUR, 9 Okt: Akta Profesion Kerja Sosial bakal diwujudkan bagi membolehkan Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (JKM) memberi tumpuan pada skop tugas pekerja sosial, kata Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
Menteri Pembangunan Wanita, Keluarga dan Masyarakat itu, berkata akta berkenaan dijangka dibentangkan kementeriannya, Disember ini.
“Rang undang-undang itu bakal mengukuhkan lagi peranan dan keberkesanan perkhidmatan pekerja sosial agar ia bertepatan dengan cabaran masalah sosial yang semakin kompleks,“ katanya di Dewan Rakyat, di sini, hari ini.
Beliau berkata demikian ketika menjawab soalan Maria Chin Abdullah (PH-Petaling Jaya) mengenai apakah akan ada kajian terhadap sistem perlindungan sosial di bawah JKM susulan laporan Pelapor Khas Bangsa-Bangsa Bersatu (PBB).
Bagi menangani masalah kekurangan kakitangan pekerja sosial, menurut Dr Wan Azizah, Kementeriannya telah pun mula berbincang dengan Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam supaya perkara ini dapat diselesaikan.
“Pada masa sama, kementerian juga bercadang meningkatkan kolaborasi bersama pertubuhan-pertubuhan bukan kerajaan (NGO) dalam memastikan kumpulan sasar menerima perlindungan sewajarnya,” katanya lagi.
