PELABUHAN KLANG, 3 Julai 2019 — Generasi muda terutama lepasan Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia disaran menceburi kerja sebagai pelaut kerana ia menjanjikan pendapatan yang lumayan di samping peningkatan kerjaya yang bagus.
Menteri Pengangkutan, Anthony Loke Siew Fook berkata permintaan terhadap pelaut semakin meningkat kerana kepesatan ekonomi dunia dan bidang perkapalan merupakan nadi yang menggerakkan barangan ke seluruh dunia.
“Pelaut bukan hanya terdiri daripada kelasi, ia juga terdiri antaranya seperti kapten, jurutera dan juruteknik yang bekerja di atas kapal.
“Perjumpaan saya dengan beberapa syarikat perkapalan antarabangsa yang terkemuka turut mengatakan mereka berminat untuk mengambil pelaut dari Malaysia kerana kefasihan dalam Bahasa Inggeris,” katanya dalam sidang media selepas merasmikan Hari Pelaut 2019 di sini hari ini.
Turut hadir Ketua Pengarah Jabatan Laut Malaysia, Datuk Baharin Abdul Hamid.
Anthony Loke berkata, ibu bapa kini perlu mengikis tanggapan negatif yang ada terhadap pelaut-pelaut dan menggalakkan anak mereka menceburi kerjaya berkenaan.
“Kita ada kira-kira 35 institusi pengajian yang menawarkan pengajian dalam industri perkapalan dan peluang ini perlu dimanfaatkan sepenuhnya,” katanya.
Beliau berkata, kerajaan mahu melihat lebih banyak kerjasama antara institusi pengajian tempatan dengan institusi antarabangsa seperti International Maritime Law Institute dan World Maritime University.
“Minggu lalu saya telah melawat ke World Maritime University di Malmo, Sweden, yang menawarkan kursus bagi lepasan ijazah dan berbincang dengan mereka untuk bekerjasama dengan institusi tempatan untuk menawarkan kursus jangka pendek di negara ini.
“Kita harap ia dapat dijalankan dengan lebih banyak dan kerap kerana banyak pengkhususan yang boleh diceburi. Ia bukan hanya melatih untuk menghasilkan anak kapal tetapi juga ada bidang seperti insurans, undang-undang dan pemasaran maritim yang lebih khusus dan memerlukan kemahiran tertentu,” katanya.
